New Orleans writer Ian McNulty is a winner in the 2011 Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition, which is recognized as the most prestigious in the field of travel journalism. McNulty earned the Silver Award in the Travel Book category for his book “Louisiana Rambles: Exploring America’s Cajun and Creole Heartland.”

I’m headed to Lafayette this Saturday, April 16, for my first Louisiana Rambles book event outside of New Orleans, so I’m eager to see how people in Acadiana respond to a book largely about Acadiana.

I have two signings coming up this weekend (details here), though neither venue is the really the right spot to conduct a reading. I do have a brief recorded reading to offer, however, thanks to the radio host and all-around literary impresario Susan Larson.

At long last, the release of Louisiana Rambles is near. We’ll have a proper book signing at one of my favorite book shops in New Orleans, and then a big book party at my favorite bar in the world. Event details follow. Look for more news about future events around the region soon!

I’m proud and thrilled to announce that the publication date for my latest book, “Louisiana Rambles,” is set for late February 2011. The first book signing will be held at Garden District Books in New Orleans on Feb. 24, beginning at 6 p.m.

I learned during book signings for A Season of Night that readers often are interested to hear about how a project moves from concept to reality. So in this post I decided to sketch a little roadmap for how this book came to be.
